The Quality Books Inc. Publisher's – Cataloging in Publication is an independent service of Quality Books Inc. and has no connection with QBI title selection.  Participation in this cataloging service does not guarantee a decision on QBI's part to stock a title.  Titles must be submitted separately to QBI's Title Selection Committee with a completed Information Form & Distribution Agreement, which is available upon request.

                                                INSTRUCTIONS:

In order to receive your electronic P-CIPsm from Quality Books Inc., you may submit a galley or manuscript in a plain text (ASCII) format as an attachment, along with the completed eP-CIP form attachment and payment.  If the galley or manuscript is incomplete or unavailable, you must include the title page (or a facsimile/mock-up thereof) and at least one of the following: An introduction/foreword/preface (descriptive of the content of the work), a table of contents, bibliography, sample chapter (first and/or last chapter), or index.  If this is a pictorial work (more than 50% of the content of the work will consist of illustrations and/or maps), please so indicate. 

Note: All applications involving works intended for children must include a full story line and a plot synopsis in 25 words or fewer. A plot synopsis describes the action of the story and not necessarily the moral, lesson, or intent of the story.

Note: We will not process applications for works in foreign languages or provide eP-CIPsm for titles published outside the U.S. Bilingual works will be treated on a case-by-case basis.
Note:All APPLICATIONS WITH ATTACHMENTS NOT IN PLAIN TEXT FORMAT (e.g. Acrobat, Adobe, PDF, JPG, GIF, MS Word, WordPerfect) WILL BE REJECTED!
Instructions for converting your attachments to plain text may be found here. Please follow the Library of Congress' guidlines, as outlined in section 5.2 of the Electronic CIP Publisher's Manual. If your title page will include diacritics, please convert them to the html-code equivalent based on the table at: http://www.w3c.org/TR/html40/sgml/entities.html#iso-88591. Alternatively, submit the plain text attachment without diacritics and fax a copy of the formatted version (after you receive your application confirmation number) to 1-(815)-732-4499. Please note the application number on any materials you send by fax.

$100.00 for all first editions.

For fees to complete updates on previous P-CIPssm you must contact the P-CIPsm department (i.e., new editions, revised editions, updates, corrections) at pcipemail@quality-books.com. 

Payment can be made by credit card (see below).  If you do not wish to use the credit card form due to security reasons, you may call the P-CIPsm Department (once you have received a confirmation that your application was received at QBI) and present the credit card information needed.

Quality Books Inc. only accepts Visa, MasterCard, and American Express credit cards.

Time Frame: Quality Books Inc. will not guarantee exact turn around times.  Schedules will be on a first-come, first-served basis depending on the quantity received in any given day.  Service turnaround is in-house with catalogers and does not include e-mail delivery or server problems. 

         Service time will start when complete information is received at Quality Books Inc.  This means if a cataloger is working on the application request and a problem arises, a phone call will be made, and if no one returns that call it may delay delivery of your P-CIPsm block.  Camera ready P-CIPsm will be returned via e-mail in a Microsoft Word attachment.

         Quality Books Inc. does not accept every P-CIPsm that is submitted.  QBI does reserve the right to refuse any application.

  • REMEMBER: Attachments must be in plain text (ASCII format). ALL APPLICATIONS WITH ATTACHMENTS NOT IN PLAIN TEXT WILL BE REJECTED
  • At a minimum, you MUST submit a plain text attachment containing your TITLE PAGE. Failure to do so will result in your application being rejected.
  • The following are examples of files that are NOT plain text:
    • PDF (Acrobat or Adobe)
    • MS Word documents
    • WordPerfect documents
    • JPG files, GIF files, Photoshop documents
    Applications submitted with attachments in any format other than plain text will be rejected
  • This form has been designed to work with Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher for the Windows platform. Other browsers (or operating systems) may work, but are not supported.
